Nissan Buzz: Future Cars PDF Print E-mail

Nissan Motors continues to make important strides in becoming one of the highest quality automakers on the scene in North America today. Long living in the shadow of Japanese stalwarts Honda and Toyota, Nissan is fighting back with a series of new or updated models to cut into the Honda-Toyota dominance. Can they succeed? You be the judge as we take a look at four coming attractions soon to make their appearance at a Nissan dealer near you!

Nissan Versa – Toyota’s Scion division has been a hit with the youth, while Nissan has been scrambling to provide models that can capture the interest of new drivers while being at the same time affordable. Scheduled for release by Summer 2006, the Versa will come with a 1.8L inline four cylinder engine and be available as either a five door hatchback or a four door sedan. The car will be manufactured in Mexico with a starting price in the neighborhood of 12 thousand dollars expected.

Nissan Cube – Still in the “maybe it will be imported” stage, the new Cube is Nissan’s response to the Scion xB and the Honda Element. Seating five to seven adults, the Cube is exactly that: a box on wheels. Published reports suggest that the Cube will be released to the North American market by 2008.

Nissan Sentra – A new Sentra is expected to bow during the second half of 2006 as a 2007 model. Significant styling changes and an up market push are planned by Nissan to help the car compete more effectively with the VW Golf and Mazda 3.

Nissan Altima – The big change coming for the Altima is the introduction of a hybrid engine. Scheduled to hit Nissan showrooms by Fall 2006, this new Altima model will actually borrow Toyota technology to create Nissan’s first hybrid. The engine and the battery will be all Nissan, however; Nissan apparently needs an assist from its Japanese rival to enter the growing hybrid segment.

Beyond 2008 consumers can expect to see an updated Quest van makes its appearance with subtle changes on the remaining vehicles in Nissan’s line up. Additional models are in the concept stage; expect some to be shown at upcoming auto shows.

Although it is too early to confirm each of the four featured models, Nissan’s thrust in the coming years is to increase its share of the Generation “Y” market. Should the Cube and Versa make their appearance as hoped for, Nissan is likely to score some points with young drivers in two areas: style and price. Look out Honda and look out Toyota!

Nissan: 40 Years in North America PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 July 2008 03:01

The North American market has seen some bold changes by Nissan over the years. Originally imported under the Datsun name, Nissan cars in Canada and the US made the switch over to the new name in the early 1980s and the company hasn’t been the same since. A broader line up and the introduction of the luxurious Infiniti brand in the late 1980s changed the face of Nissan tremendously. The winners are consumers everywhere who can get a great vehicle for a fair price.

It was in 1965 when the first Datsuns arrived in Canada. Who could forget the 1600cc 510 wagon with a 4 speed manual transmission? The only thing that could kill this car was rust and a rust bucket it was at that. Or, how about the 620 pick up? A great little hauler that is in a league of its own. My personal favorite was the 720 pick up truck equipped with a diesel engine. A good, sturdy truck that really sipped fuel.

Today’s Nissan line up is a far cry from the cars that dotted the landscape during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. For consumers that is probably a good thing too. Today’s line up still offers glimpses of the original Datsuns with the Sentra reminding some of the old B210, but about ten times more comfortable at that too. The Altima, Maxima, and the revived 350Z round out the car line up and when you add in all the SUVs and trucks that Nissan now sells the Japanese automaker has something for everyone.

Consumers are maintaining their Nissans/Datsuns with premium Nissan parts and accessories. Your dealer will have what you need, but remember the prices you pay for parts through the dealership will be the prevailing retail rate. Some national auto parts chains will have a decent selection, but they may have difficulty hunting down the rare Datsun or early Nissan part for you.

A new choice for consumers is auto parts wholesalers, particularly those who sell online. Prices are usually much lower because wholesalers buy direct from leading manufacturers including Bosch, K&N, Hella, Monroe, Covercraft, and others. Still, make sure that the retailer is based in Canada and not charging you outrageous shipping and duty charges for parts shipped in from the US or elsewhere. The selection they offer to you should be great, parts stocked must meet or exceed OEM requirements, and customer service should be just a click of the mouse and/or a toll free phone number away.

Be careful of retailers specializing in generic Nissan parts as counterfeit auto parts are a big problem in North America. Always learn in advance what the company"s shipping, return, and warranty policies are before making your purchase.

It is an all new subcompact car from Nissan and will be a 2007 year model. This is the Nissan Versa. It will be made available as a sedan and as a hatchback as well. Fact is, this vehicle has been based on the Nissan Tiida which is a vehicle that is sold only in the Japanese automobile market. The 2007 Nissan Versa hatchbacks will be manufactured in Japan whereas the sedan versions would be constructed in Aguascalientes in Mexico. This new vehicle from Nissan will be making its way to public knowledge come the 2006 North American International Auto Show. First to roll down the ramp would be the hatchback model. The sedan will be rolling next after a couple of months. The Nissan Versa will be coming equipped with a 1.8 liter I4 engine that has the capacity to produce some 120 units of horsepower along with 125 pound feet. There will be transmissions to be installed which would be a four speed automatic, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and a 6 speed manual transmission system. This would be sold with price range of US $12,000 to $15,500. In Canada, though, the 2007 Nissan Versa would be filling the niche left by the Nissan Micra back in 1991. According to Jed Connelly, the senior vice president of Nissan in America"s sales and marketing department, "Versa rounds out our strong car portfolio which is going to see a lot of new activity in the coming model year. Combined with the popular Nissan Sentra, the new Versa gives Nissan a major presence in the under $20,000 sedan segments, which currently account for nearly 1.9 million annual sales." This new vehicle holds an international design. It has been constructed using Nissan"s advanced B platform. What the name, Versa, means is that it is a reflection of the versatile space that the vehicle offers. It provides a roomy interior as well as a cargo area. Aside from supple and comfortable room, it also holds a high quality interior and stress-free environment. The interior holds excellent interior design and craftsmanship that mirrors a simple yet clean design and layout that shows off everything that the Nissan Versa has to offer. Connelly, says regarding this, "The Versa design and engineering teams found a way to put a big interior in a small car. The interior length, front to back is over six feet long - equal to or larger than some full size luxury sedans." A uto Parts Information joins Nissan in providing the world with quality products.
